| | Part of our grade in The Psychology of Good and Evil is to plan a community service project that does something good in a world that seems ugly sometimes. We have decided to do a blanket drive and donate these blankets to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). This organization provides adult advocates for foster children that are either in foster care temporarily until their parents get their act together, or that will eventually be put up for adoption. Often, these kids do not have anything, and are moved from place to place, school to school, and court date to court date. Mrs. McKinney (the CASA coordinator for the Clark County branch) says that when these children are in therapy sessions, they often respond so much better if they have something soft and warm to hold on to. So, our class wants to collect FLEECE NO-SEW TIE BLANKETS to donate to CASA. We will be collecting them from November 26-30 (the week after Thanksgiving Break), and on Tuesday of that week (the 27th) we would like to have a time and place where students can bring fabric and we can teach them how to make these blankets. From 7-9:30 in the Tiger Den, we will help anyone who comes make a special blanket for a CASA child. Also, if someone feels that they are not creative, or does not have time to make a blanket, we will also accept donated rolls of fleece fabric (can be purchased at Walmart in the fabric section) and we will make the blankets ourselves. We want to take these blankets to Mrs. McKinney the first week of December, she is so excited that Ouachita students are willing to warm up these children that have had such rough lives. |
