Next Wednesday, February 8th, Dr. Ann Ferren will be on campus to assist us with our review of general education and the CORE curriculum. We’ve scheduled two open sessions for faculty and staff to hear from her about trends in general education and models for curricular reform (see details below). The Interdisciplinary Studies Committee encourages you to attend one or both of these sessions as they will inform our ongoing conversations about the CORE. In order to encourage broad participation, please avoid scheduling meetings (other than scheduled classes) during these times.
We will provide a light lunch at the noon forum for all who make reservations. Please contact Karen Matros (matrosk@obu.edu or x5300) by this Friday at noon to let her know if you plan to attend.
Wednesday, February 8th
Noon Faculty Forum in Walker Conference Center
Meal provided for all attendees (RSVP required)
Dr. Ferren will make a condensed presentation (20-30 minutes) highlighting what other campuses are thinking about in relation to general education. This will provide some key ideas for us to consider in moving forward with our own general education review.
3:30 Open meeting for faculty and staff – Young Auditorium
Dr. Ferren will elaborate on some creative models that other campuses are using, including how they are drawing together the different emphases mentioned in the noon meeting.
In addition to these common sessions, Dr. Ferren will meet with the Interdisciplinary Studies Committee and the Deans’ Council, along with some other key administrators. I’ve attached her vita for your information.
I hope you’ll be able to join us for what promises to be an interesting and productive day with Ann Ferren.
